Bur frontman Damon Albarn has joked that the band might decide to release some new music in the future if a ‘global petition’ demands it.

Back in 2002, Blur guitarist Graham Coxon left the group, effectively signifying the beginning of the end for the band. Following the release of 2003’s Think Tank, the band broke up, and did not reunite until 2008.

Following a few years of live performances, the band eventually released a new album, with The Magic Whip being released in 2015. Since then though, there’s not been any mention of new music from the group. However, Damon Albarn has recently joked he might change his mind should a “global petition” demand new music from Blur.

In a recent interview with The Toronto Sun, Albarn, who has been rather busy with Gorillaz in recent years, addressed the topic of a Blur reunion.

“Well, there’s already quite a lot of Blur out there,” he explained. “I suppose it would have to be because something compelled us to do it again, whether it’s a global petition or we fancy doing it again.”

Of course, while it appears that he was joking about a global petition, one fan has actually taken it upon themselves to create a campaign which, at the time of writing, has 129 signatures.

Notably though, Damon Albarn did recently address the topic of recording new Blur music though, stating that “Whenever Graham [Coxon] is around, I’m up to playing music with him.”

Although Gorillaz appears to be the main band on Albarn’s mind right now, the rocker is reportedly on track to release a new album by The Good, The Bad & The Queen this year.

Whatever the case, it looks like fans will be receiving plenty of new music from Damon Albarn in the future, it’s just a matter of which project of his will be delivering the tunes.
