Dan Vogl introduces his new solo guise with the swelling folk of ‘If I Die’

‘If I Die’ is the latest work by Melbourne singer-songwriter Dan Vogl, and the first under his solo guise. A swelling folk tale anchored around Dan’s gorgeous vox, its delicate strings play beautifully against a shifting drum rhythm that imbues the song with an entirely new energy midway through.

The final composition was pieced together with the help of the Emmy-winning Guus Hoevenaars, who has worked with the likes of Scissor Sisters and The Pierces, and he brings a distinct sheen to proceedings, with Dan certainly happy to have him on board from the beginning of the new project.

“Working with Guus was a great learning experience,” he says. “His attention to detail was exceptional and has a deep understanding of texture. In the short time we had to work together we collaborated to do what’s best for the song.”

“I love Dan’s vocal and songs,” Guus adds. “Our recording sessions were all around inspiring plus starting in Melbourne and finishing in London, made it very special.”

Dan also had the opportunity to work with the likes of Ainslie Wills and Jen Cloher this year after winning The Push Inc’s Music Industry Pathways Mentorship Program, and capped off a strong start to 2017 with a set at The Hills Are Alive.
