Superstar Phoebe Bridgers has made somewhat of a name for herself by giving us a lil’ taste of the glory days of rock n’ roll when she smashed a guitar on Saturday Night Live this past weekend.  While she’s received a tonne of backlash from keyboard warriors and even stated last night on Twitter that she was  “cancelled by incels”, turns out Dave Grohl has her back.

Foo Fighters appeared on The Howard Stern Show yesterday (February 10, 2021) and Grohl was asked his thoughts on Bridgers controversial move.

“I saw that performance — I actually talked to my mom about it. […] She goes, ‘What did you think about that girl Phoebe?’ I’m like, ‘She’s got a beautiful voice, she can really sing.’ My mother was like, ‘I loved it, I thought she was great!’ When you watch us jam and freak out and do our thing… I think that’s what they did.”

He even compared her performance to his time with the iconic rock band Nirvana. “It was every fucking night. My drums had holes in them from Kurt [Cobain] fucking chopping my drums. I’ve seen enough smashed guitars. It feels fucking good to do it,” he said.

If you’re not quite up to speed on the entire shit show that is Phoebe Bridgers and the infamous smashed guitar, let me fill you in with a quick little rundown.

  • Phoebe Bridgers appears on Saturday Night Live and, after her performance of ‘I Know The End’, while bathed in appropriately creepy red lighting she let out a scream, smashed her guitar and, also, kicked a speaker.
  • The internet police – or as Bridgers likes to call them, the incels – were totally rattled and went wild, saying smashing a guitar was ‘extra’ and ‘attention seeking’. The internet had a lot of ~feels~ about what Bridgers did and the majority was very PC.
  • It looked as though David Crosby agreed with the incels, he took to Twitter to share his opinions on her performance saying, “Guitars are for playing ..making music …..not stupidly bashing them on a fake monitor for childish stage drama …..I really do NOT give a flying F if others have done it before. It’s still STUPID”
  • Crosby then called her stunt ‘pathetic’ when asked about it on Twitter.
  • Not one to mince words or hold back her truth, Bridgers retweeted the above mentioned post and called Crosby a ‘little bitch.’
  • Crosby has been on somewhat of a rampage with various comments on Bridgers, her performance and guitar smashing in general. Honestly, it’s a LOT, so head to his Twitter to read for yourself (if you cbf).
  • Dave Grohl, the wholesome rockstar we all don’t deserve, stepped in in defense of Bridgers’ act, spoke of her great talent and pretty much encouraged some more guitar smashing in the near future.

Now that we’re all on the same page I’ll leave you with Bridgers iconic tweet, because it’s too good not to.
