More than 20 years after the release of the album that made them household names, the Deftones are set to hold a White Pony listening party tomorrow morning.
It feels almost hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the Deftones managed to storm the Aussie charts with their third album. Released on June 22nd in 2000, the record came almost three after their Around The Fur, which itself had seen the group receive widespread praise for their brutal compositions.
White Pony, however, was a global smash in comparison. Hitting #2 on the Aussie charts, #3 in the US, and quickly becoming their most popular record, tracks like ‘Change (In The House Of Flies)’ helped propel the group to dizzying new heights.
To date, it remains their most beloved record, and with its 20th anniversary kicking off over the weekend, the group held a press conference to announce some new plans. Most notably, the record will receive the reissue treatment later this year, accompanied by the remix album Black Stallion.
“We’re gonna be releasing later in the year a reissue of the record and we’re going to do sort of a split side of the record, a remixed version of it titled Black Stallion,” Chino Moreno explained.
“So we have a bunch of different people on it, some that actually inspired some of the writing of the record itself, the original album. So it’s kind of come full circle.”
However, while fans are eager to receive this vital piece of Deftones memorabilia, the group recently took to Instagram to reveal an extra plan, with a White Pony listening party taking place tomorrow.

Held via the band’s YouTube channel, the group invited all their fans to attend the global listening party, which is set to take place at 11AM AEST on Tuesday, June 23rd.
Given how artists have been engaging with their fans via live Q&As and broadcasts in recent months, we can only assume the group will be on board to listen along to the record with you, and maybe answer some questions. However, it’s all unconfirmed at the current time.
If you don’t like living in the past though (but with Tool’s Maynard James Keenan lending his vocals to the classic track ‘Passenger’, how could you not?), Deftones are currently looking forward to September as the date in which we’ll see their new album released.
“It should be coming along, hopefully, maybe September,” explained drummer Abe Cunningham of the follow-up to 2016’s Gore. “I heard something.”
