Almost four years after Symptoms And Cures, Comeback Kid have dropped one of their biggest records yet with Die Knowing. Meshing together hardcore and punk elements, the band have found a way to merge the best parts of each previous release into one record, reaffirming why they have become a mosh pit staple.
Throughout the 12 tracks, listeners will hear the group at their heaviest and loudest and at other times their grooviest and catchiest. ‘Lower The Line’, with its blistering opening, ‘Losing Sleep’, and first single ‘Should Know Better’ are some of the album’s fastest songs no doubt penned with a mosh pit in mind, while the second half of the LP tones things down and highlights the melodic punk feel of the albums past.
‘Unconditional’ is the pinnacle of this transition, slowing down the tempo with a newfound brooding weight while still being catchy as hell. Album highlight ‘Beyond’ sits between the two with its groovy guitar lines, frenzied instruments, and catchy gang chants, making for the perfect middle ground on the record.
On a fifth studio album, a band can afford to take some risks, but this is something that Die Knowing doesn’t do. While the hardcore band have done an incredible job playing to their strengths, the new collection slots perfectly into their discography without necessarily offering anything new. Instead, Comeback Kid have taken everything they do well and built one hell of an album.
