American duo Diet Cig have announced the forthcoming release of their second full-length album, Do You Wonder About Me?, out May 1st via Frenchkiss Records.
Sharing ‘Thriving’ (the latest single from their upcoming album), New Yorkers Alex Luciano and Noah Bowman explain that the song is expression at its purest.
“’Thriving’ is a cathartic, campy release of feelings,’ says the gutsy rock duo, “It’s about the duality of absolutely THRIVING without someone but also desperately wanting them to notice you doing so.”
The band notes that they were also inspired by the melodrama of reality TV and musical theatre when writing the tune.
“We wanted the song to bounce back and forth between a lavish personal anthem and the anguish of feeling forever beholden to others opinions,” they added.
The follow up to last month’s ‘Night Terrors’, which nabbed rotation on triple j and was included on NPR’s “All Songs” broadcast week of release, ‘Thriving’ teases just a hint more of the duo’s upcoming second album and the self-assured, intentional, new sound of Diet Cig after 2017’s debut Swear I’m Good At This.
The group note that Do You Wonder About Me? was permeated with more freedom than their previous releases, but still features the powerful nature that has become associated with them.

“We spent a lot of time after the first record growing as people, being humans outside of tour for a little bit, and trying to shed the imposter syndrome,” Luciano says. Do You Wonder About Me? explores considering and accepting the embarrassing aspects of your identity, and how they’re just as much a part of you as the good stuff.
Do You Wonder About Me? is set to be released on May 1st, but you can check out the group’s latest single below.
