FBI Radio have been on a roll of late putting together quality music documentaries with some of the country’s most talented directors. From journeying through Sydney’s underground electronic scene to discovering Australia’s thriving bush doof culture these documentaries vividly display the current state of our diverse local music scene.
Now comes another fascinating insight into Sydney’s music with the second episode in ‘Sceno’s Subcultural Safari’, by film maker Ivan Lentell, on Sydney’s bunker raves.

For the uninitiated the bunker raves take places around Sydney Harbour, which were built in the 1870s for defence against the Russians. However what once sounded like the setting of a James Bond film has been transferred into a rave haven. The popularity of which is no surprise given the city’s tough lockout laws.
The documentary goes behind the scenes of these bunker raves via the founder of just one of these events, who is masked and goes under the pseudonym of ‘Mr X’. Lentell doesn’t provide a picturesque display of the bunker raves though, he gives a ‘warts and all’ depiction of what goes on underneath Sydney.
