Double J are set to celebrate their fifth birthday tomorrow, and to celebrate, they’ve unveiled a few of their big plans.

It’s hard to believe, but Tuesday, April 30th marks the fifth anniversary of Double J’s first broadcast.

First hitting the airwaves on a Wednesday afternoon back in 2014, Double J kicked things off with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ ‘Get Ready For Love’, a testament to “the most continually played artist on triple j and Double J,” and a sign of the things to come.

In those five years, we’ve seen plenty of action. We’ve seen a Seeker Lover Keeper reunion, a month-long celebration of punkretrospective looks at great music decades, and even a re-vote in the 1998 Hottest 100. Needless to say, it’s been a wild ride so far.

Now, with the station set to celebrate five years on the air, Double J are set to hold a few special events.

Throughout the broadcast day, Double J presenters Zan Rowe, Karen Leng and Tim Shiel will be reflecting on some of their favourite stories, artists. and songs from the past five years.

“What a blast it’s been, growing with Double J,” Zan Rowe explained.

“Some of my most treasured convos have lived on Double J Mornings; from D&Ms with Janelle Monáe, to wild rides through Thundercat’s life; masterclasses in song-writing from Beck, therapy with Robyn, and tantric sex talk with Neil Finn.”

“Best of all, the Double J Fam have strapped in and wholeheartedly come along for the ride. What a joy.”

It doesn’t end there though, with former triple j presenter Rosie Beaton hitting the airwaves from 5pm to bring back Super Request for a one-off special. So if you’re keen on hearing those classic tracks (or even celebrating ‘Tool Tuesday’), be sure to text in your requests from 0408 345 555.

Lastly though, Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis will be rounding out his time as April’s Artist In Residence to bring a special Live At The Wireless performance, which will surely be see music-lovers reliving some of their favourite concert memories.

Of course, the only question now is what song Double J will be using to wish themselves a happy birthday? Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ ‘Get Ready For Love’? N.W.A.’s ‘Express Yourself’? Or maybe they’ll throw it all back with a broadcast of the Skyhooks’ ‘You Just Like Me ‘Cos I’m Good In Bed’?

Whatever the case, tune in tomorrow to help celebrate five years with one of Australia’s most beloved stations.
