Drake has reportedly been hit with a lawsuit for allegedly stealing beats to two of his hit singles, ‘Nice For What’ and ‘In My Feelings’.
Back in 2018, Drake found himself having an absolutely banner year, hitting the top of the charts with singles like ‘God’s Plan’, ‘Nice For What’, and ‘In My Feelings’, while his Scorpion album went on to become one of the biggest records of the year.
In fact, such was his success that the Toronto native was named Spotify’s most-streamed artist of 2018, with Scorpion, which set the record for the largest single-week ever for an album in the United States (745.9 million on-demand audio streams) serving as its most-streamed album, and its hit ‘God’s Plan’ the most-streamed track.
However, more than a year after they were released, Drake has been reportedly been hit with a lawsuit alleging that he stole the beats used on ‘Nice For What’, and ‘In My Feelings’.
Check out Drake’s ‘In My Feelings’:
As TMZ reports, US musician Samuel Nicholas III (also known as Sam Skully) has filed a suit against the Canadian musician, claiming that Drake sampled part of 2000’s ‘Roll Call’ for ‘In My Feelings’, doing so without permission or paying for the rights to do so.
Sam Skully claimed that the track was originally released on a local New Orleans CD back in 2000 (and doesn’t appear to be online, in case you were wondering), but did not realise his work had been allegedly lifted until Drake began his chart domination last year.
It doesn’t end there though, with Skully also alleging that another one of his tracks was also stolen to make up the beat for ‘Nice For What’, which features Big Freedia (who is also listed in the lawsuit).
