The Vines drummer Hamish Rosser has announced his official departure from the band “due to differences with frontman Craig Nicholls”, after spending 10 years with the group.
Rumours have been circulating around the internet for months about his departure following The Vines appearance at Homebake last year sans Rosser and rhythm guitarist Ryan Griffiths.
Responding for the first time to the rumours surrounding his departure Rosser told Tone Deaf exclusively “Yes. Its permanent.” But in a surprise move Rosser also revealed that he’s already found a new job as the drummer for Grammy Award winners Wolfmother.
“I’ve been planning to move from Sydney to the north coast,” Rosser revealed. “When I received a call from Andrew to ask if I’d like to try out for Wolfmother it seemed like it was meant to be.”
“For some time I’ve had one foot out the door with The Vines and was looking out for a new challenge. The time was right to move on. I’m really enjoying playing with Andrew. He brings enormous energy to the rehearsal room and I can’t wait to take it to the stage.”
“Musically we’re coming from a similar playlist of influences and he encourages big drums parts which is both challenging and rewarding from me. Plus I’m a sucker for a big riff and Wolfmother has no shortage of them.”
When asked if he knew what the future plans were for The Vines, Rosser was diplomatic saying, “Craig is always writing music so it will be interesting to see what he comes out with next”, but wouldn’t comment further.
Rosser will make his debut with Wolfmother tomorrow (17th March) at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl when they support Lenny Kravitz for his Australian tour, before jetting off to Europe for a string of dates including Sonisphere in the UK..
“I’m most excited about touring overseas,” said Rossed. “In June & July we have a moth of European dates. The last time I toured Europe was 2004!”
