It’s been over three years since Thebe Kgositsile, the rapper better known as Earl Sweatshirt, released his last album. 2015’s I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside received widespread acclaim upon its release, ending up on many publications’ Best Albums list for the year. However, apart from a few stray tracks the odd guest appearance – such as on Danny Brown’s ‘Really Doe’ – there’s been little new material from the Odd Future alumni. In January, the rapper promised new tunes by the end of the year, reassuring fans he’s been at work.

Now, at long last, it appears that something is on the way. Earlier today, Sweatshirt tweeted out a brief, mysterious video with a lush instrumental behind it and little other details. It’s not certain – but it could mean new Earl Sweatshirt material before the year is out.

Back in September, Earl tweeted (and quickly deleted) a suggestion that new music was on the way, telling fans “the wait is almost over”. Most recently, he appeared on Vince Staples‘ surprise album FM! which dropped over the weekend.
