Elton John has spoken of his delight over being referenced within the plotline for the latest episode of the hugely popularly British drama ‘Killing Eve’.

The fifth episode of the show’s third series aired on 10 May and was titled ‘Are You From Pinner?’ in reference to Elton John’s hometown, and focuses on Villanelle a.k.a. Oksana Astankova (played by Jodie Comer) heading to Russia in order to reunite with her long lost family. Her younger half-brother Bor’ka (Temirlan Blaev) is revealed to be a superfan of the ‘Candle in the Wind’ singer, his bedroom adorned with posters of the iconic star.

Clearly chuffed about his inclusion in the award-winning series, the 73-year-old took to Instagram to post a screenshot of Comer as Villanelle as she dons a wig and some very Elton-esque, oversized heart-shaped sunglasses.

“#KillingEve is such a groundbreaking series and I was thrilled to be included in this week’s episode.”I think the glasses suit you @jodiemcomer!”

Comer – clearly ecstatic over the music legend’s acknowledgement – later shared Elton’s post to her own Instagram story, writing: “I can’t even act cool. I’m going to look at this whenever I’m sad.”

Villanelle’s extravagant outfit choices weren’t the only references to Elton John in the latest ep. Among the other nods to him peppered throughout the episode included Villanelle’s family dancing on their dinner table to his 1973 hit ‘Crocodile Rock’, and when Bor’ka questioned whether Villanelle originated from Elton’s hometown before learning her real identity.

At the explosive conclusion of the episode, we see that Borka finally receives the means to embark on his dream trip to see Elton John play, thanks to Villanelle.
