Melbourne dance punks Northeast Party House are set to release their debut EP and single Embezzler is the first taste of it. Combining deep fuzzy bass lines and shiny funk guitar lines reminiscent of Talking Heads or even their contemporaries Goldfields and The Holidays the vocals croon and shout – lamenting that he’s ‘lost a lover to a thief and a creep’.

The funk is thick and fast, and it’s one of those hip-shaking tunes that with some top notch production reveals more than just a catchy synth tune – it’s an extremely impressive debut and no doubt destined to be a Triple J summer favourite – perhaps just the sudden fade out at the song’s conclusion and not ending on the up beat or guitar stroke will make it a little trickier to fade in to another track when it’s heating up a full dance floor.
