Empire of the Sun are bringing some serious star power to their 2027 Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand tour, with a stacked lineup of special guests now confirmed.
The Temper Trap, The Jungle Giants and Roi Turbo have been confirmed as special guests for the electronic duo’s ‘Ask That God: Afterlife Tour’, which will make its way across six cities in February and March next year.
The Temper Trap will join Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore for shows in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, while The Jungle Giants will take over main support duties for the Adelaide and Perth dates.
The upcoming dates will give fans the chance to catch The Temper Trap following their long-awaited return to music earlier this year. The Melbourne indie-rock favourites released Sungazer, their first studio album in a decade, in July, with the record debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart.
The band have since completed a 24-date North American tour supporting Muse and a sold-out Australian headline run. Their enduring hit “Sweet Disposition” also reached the one billion streams milestone earlier this year.
Meanwhile, The Jungle Giants are fresh off the release of their latest album, Experiencing Feelings of Joy, which follows their 2021 chart-topping record Love Signs. The new record sees frontman Sam Hales explore a turbulent period in his personal life, including creative burnout, physical injury and the end of a long-term relationship.
“I was so messed up by not being able to write music,” he told Rolling Stone AU/NZ earlier this year. “I was so messed up by having a relationship breakup with someone I was making music with. That was crazy. It messed deeply with my brain.
“I started to learn that music wasn’t the issue, it was myself. I’d basically set myself up for failure – music was there, but I had closed the door to it. What I learnt was to change my outlook, stop looking for the outcome and start enjoying the process again. Where I’m at now is leaps and bounds away from when I started. And by week 12, I had finished the record.”
Meanwhile, South African-born, London-based duo Roi Turbo will open every show for Empire and the Sun. No strangers to the Empire of the Sun universe, they’ve previously joined the duo on two tours. Brothers Benjamin and Conor McCarthy also recently teamed up with Steele for their new single “Can’t Stop the Beat”, released earlier this week.

Announced last month, Empire of the Sun’s forthcoming tour – their biggest-ever tour Down Under – will feature a reimagined live production to mark the final chapter of their Ask That God era. Tickets are on sale now here.
“Ask That God: Afterlife feels like a tour of unknowns and possibilities – new visions, new plateaus, fragile breakthroughs. I think things are going to happen on this tour that have never happened before,” Steele said. “We can’t wait to take this music and this tour to new frontiers. Let’s break barriers together.”
It’s possible that the upcoming shows will also feature new music. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Littlemore said Empire are aiming to release a brand new album “within the next year”.
“We pretty much have all the songs now… I have high hopes for it now,” he said.
