If you’ve ever wanted a guitar that is as lavish as it is expensive, then ESP have the axe for you, recently launching their Shin Godzilla-inspired instrument.
Have you ever found yourself looking at some of the most iconic and well-crafted guitars in music history?
Sure, you might have found yourself eyeballing Jimmy Page’s Gibson Les Paul Standard, Angus Young’s Jaydee SG, Neil Young’s “Old Black” Gibson Les Paul, or even Kurt Cobain’s Fender Jag-Stang, but it’s easy to forget there’s always another side to the spectrum of iconic instruments.
While we’ve seen some absolutely disgraceful instruments over time, we’ve also seen some that are so garish, lavish, and cumbersome that it almost feels like Metallica’s ‘The Thing That Should Not Be’ was written with them in mind.
Now, we have another contender for the title of most monstrous guitar in all of history, with Godzilla being immortalised in the newest creation from ESP.
As Guitar World reports, musician Toshihiko Takamizawa of The Alfee teamed up with the makers of Shin Godzilla and ESP Guitars last October to create a one-of-a-kind “ESP GODZILLA Takamiy Version” guitar.
With Takamizawa is already a known fan of the Godzilla franchise, and a manager of the franchise’s official Tokyo store in Shinjuku, the rocker’s special instrument featured a body shaped like the iconic monster in its famous pose, with jaws wide open.
Now, The Godzilla Store have announced they’re making five replicas of Takamizawa’s guitar available for sale. Dubbed the “Godzilla Guitar Awakened Version”, only five will be made, and will set you back 5.55 million yen, or roughly $77,500 AUD.
With a body shaped like Godzilla, and the neck mimicking his tail, the guitar also features LED lights, and come with custom-built cases for the cumbersome instrument.
Of course, an instrument like this doesn’t come without a few caveats though. With only five replicas being made, the instrument won’t ship internationally, so only Japanese fans of Godzilla will be able to grab themselves one of these axes.
They’re only being offered until the end of September as well, and they won’t arrive until the end of 2021. Needless to say, this is definitely one for the diehards.
