If your in a “cool” and “exciting” band and you want a new guitarist, why not drop Marty Friedman a line?

The ex-Megadeth shred lord has been living in Japan since 2003, casually producing some blistering solo work and staying on the radar.

Friedman made a name for himself with his work on Megadeth’s masterwork Rust In Peace (1991), and also featured on Countdown To Extinction, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings and the controversial Risk.

Speaking with Sirius XM’s “Trunk Nation”, Friedman said that “any kind of band that I think is cool and new and exciting, or just any band that’s doing anything really, really interesting that I could contribute to, I would be way into that.”

“I do anything that I think is insane. Anything that I think is really exciting or worth doing, I definitely would pursue. So I’m not against any type of situation, really.”

When asked if he would ever go down the (sometimes dreaded) super-group path, Friedman was adamant that “if the right situation were to arise, I would be jumping on it.”

I think a lot of great combinations of people can create new things that are better than the sum of the parts… i’ve done a whole lot of that in Japan, but not a whole lot of it outside of Japan. So I’d be into it.”

Friedman revealed in 2015 that he was asked to re-join Megadeth after the departure of Chris Broderick, but said at the time that doing so would be “a huge step backwards.”

Speaking about his relationship with the band however, Friedman was adamant that “I’m very, very close friends with (David) Mustaine and (Dave) Ellefson…but just because there’s a vacancy in the band is not enough of a reason for me to, all of a sudden, put aside all the things I’m doing and then just join their band. It’s just not.”

In addition to his solo work, Friedman has also been hard at work releasing music with the group Tourniquet, & Enzo and the Glory Ensemble. Check it out below.
