Paul Curtis is a Brisbane artists who over the last 25 years or so has been putting together a unique body of work where visual art and music intersect.
Starting in the mid-80s with hand-drawn flyers and screen printed posters featuring his unique style and seen all over various venues – such as Love Inn, Sensoria, Funkyard, The Roxy, Metropolis, Volcanic Bass and more – Curtis’ work and unique vision developed and strengthened over time.
He’s worked with a huge range of unique music makers, including Vampire Lovers, Celibate Rifles, The Headstones, Dream Killers, The Girlies, Volcanic Bass – and nearly 20 years working with Regurgitator, including duties that encompassed management. But Curtis has always thrown himself into every opportunity to get involved in visual creativity – tour posters, t-shirts, merchandise, design – the lot. Curtis has mixed his unique visual creativity and passion of music and management, tour promotion, curatorship and administrative whatnots.
Now an exhibition of Paul Curtis’ unique body of work is getting its proper due, titled ‘Some Just Trip: Archival hoardings of a music-ridden pack rat.”
Some Just Trip is being showcased at the State Library of Queensland, who extended an invitation to Curtis to be part of their LIVE! Queensland Band Culture exhibition that runs until 15th September. The exhibition of his work will be viewed in the library’s foyer and officially opens on Saturday 13th July at 5pm, along with an informal interview with the mastermind behind the iconic artwork.
‘Some Just Trip: Archival hoardings of a music-ridden pack rat’ will run until 11th August and is one-of-a-kind chance to view a large collection of Paul Curtis’ work in the one location. View details below, along with a few selections of Curtis’ work.
