Feeling glum now that Radiohead’s Australian tour is officially over? Does all other music just sound duller now by comparison? Food and colours don’t have the same zest and everything’s downhill from here? We feel your pain.
Fear not, because thanks to some truly dedicated and well-equipped fans of the Oxford quintet, there’s now a surefire way to get you out of your slump and relive some of the magic of the live Radiohead experience.
As Pitchfork reports, a team of enterprising fans have put together a high quality, tw0-hour long concert film of Radiohead’s performance at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom, taken from their second show in the Big Apple on September 29, 2011.
The complete concert (which you can view in the banner) features footage shot by various fans at the New York show, but more importantly, features soundboard quality audio provided by Radiohead themselves; meaning that while the visuals are a bit shaky – the sound is as good as you’d hope of a live recording.
The completed concert film to the memory of the band’s deceased drum technician, Scott Johnson, after the collapse of a stage at a Radiohead performance at Toronto, Canada tragically claimed Johnson’s life.
The creators have made it available on YouTube and on torrent sites for free, but urge viewers to make a donation to charity as a form of surrogate payment.
Considering the location it was film, the makers are asking appreciative viewers to donate to the Red Cross’ Hurricane Sandy relief effort, or Doctors Without Border after the devastating effects of the storm on New York City and the Tri-State area, especially to the music industry. Alternatively they urge for donations towards the Haiti Earthquake fund set up by Oxfam.
The concert itself is a real winner too, including every track from The King Of Limbs sans closing song ‘Separator’, as well as the first noted ‘full band performance’ of non-album track ‘Supercollider’. Other highlights include a rare showing of OK Computer cut ‘Subterranean Homesick Alien’ and a hypnotic version of ‘Everything In Its Right Place’ with a short performance of Radiohead rarity ‘True Love Waits’ as an intro.
A trick the band pulled out for one of their final shows in Melbourne as the last of two dates of their worldwide tour; of which our Tone Deaf reviewer remarked: “It’s on nights like these that kids are inspired and it’s after shows like this that bands are formed.
