Coming from one of Australia’s most exciting hip-hop teams in Thundamentals, MC Tuka has formulated his second well rounded release, Feedback Loop.

The second addition to his own personal hip-hop legacy sends listeners down a trail of warping spaced out beat crafting, whilst still featuring some raw, untouched and, genuine lyrical flow.

Assisted on the album by hip-hop repeat offenders, Solo (Horrowshow), witty lyricist Ellesquire and, Herd vocalist Jane Tyrrell, Tuka has armed himself with some of the genres most talented songsmiths.

Appropriately titled ‘Time And Space’, the opening track introduces an upbeat lyrical flow partnered with a cosmically transitioning space-esque beat, not a common feature of the genre by any means.

Title track ‘Feedback Loop’ shares many of the same characteristics; wobbling synth stabs combined with a tight, pinching snare and hi-hat combination. Hovering somewhere in the background, remnants of classic video games can be heard.

Lead single and toe tappingly catchy fan favourite ‘Just To Feel Wanted’ reinstates some classic hip-hop vibes in an album exploring new depths for the genre.

A long stretch from many of the previous tracks, the upbeat, jazz backed track features some soothing bass lines, giving the track an almost lounge type feel, demonstrating Tuka’s versatility.

Tuka is to be commended for the experimentation on this release. Many listeners will not know why the combinations work, but who cares.

The album may not be everybody’s idea of genuine hip-hop, but the unique instrumental combinations add a new element to a genre that has much to look forward to.
