The Festival of the Sun 2014 lineup has been announced, and organisers have pulled out all the stops to ensure the event’s “biggest year” yet as the must-attend boutique event celebrates its 10th Anniversary.

Having confirmed they’ll be celebrating a 10th birthday bash with a superhero theme for this December’s edition, the Festival Of The Sun (FOTSUN) 2014 lineup is equally heroic, pooling together a bulletproof cache of bands for the weekend-long boutique camping and BYO event, all rocking the single FOTSUN stage (so zero clashes).

Leading the bill is certified New Zealand rock legends Shihad, who will arrive fresh from dropping hulking new album FVEY – a return-to-roots blockbuster, they’ll be joined by festival-honed Brisbanites Violent Soho and their moshpit-ready anthems, and Sydney indie international high-flyers, The Jezabels.

Also on the FOTSUN 2014 lineup is “stoner pop” larrakins Dune Rats; the new prince of Aussie hip hop Allday; fellow new wave rap duo Jackie Onassis; Melbourne rockers Apes; bearded blues wrangler Steve Smyth; jet-setting outfit The Cairos; surf/horror punk band Goons of Doom; hard-hitting five-piece The Lazys; Byron Bay chilltronica collective Tora, art rock twosome The Stiffys, and another eight Aussie talents rounding out the bill – including a set from the infamous I OH YOU label DJs and a to-be-announced Unearthed comp winner.

Along with the music, there’s plenty of fun to be had with FOTSUN’s superhero theme, encouraging ticket-holders to don their best spandex and eye-masks (and probably animal onesies too), offering a prize to the ‘best-dressed kid’ at the festival. But as always, invitations to the party are limited – with a capacity of 3,000 to ensure FOTSUN maintains the best experience possible for the beachside bash, taking place Friday 12th and Saturday 13th December.

Providing a sunny, sandy, surfing destination on the waterfront to go with the super-sounds, FOTSUN 2014 will once again set up camp at the Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park, nearby to Port Macquarie’s CBD – that’s brought unforgettable summer memories and folklore-worthy fables offor its patrons for 10 years now.

“Iʼm glad to say that the smile still never leaves my face every year of FOTSUN,” says Festival Director Simon Luke. “I feel like the festival is still so young, as the last 10 years have simply flown by. We have all been very lucky to have witnessed so many amazing artists play on our stage, and have had so many great punters and crew to share the experiences with. I am so excited for the next 10 years of FOTSUN.”

Tickets are $165 (+b/f), which covers camping costs, while VIP packages are also available – offering cabins and cottage accommodation – all going on sale from 2nd September at 10am. And given that last year’s FOTSUN sold out in record time, you better be quick.

So heed the advice of FOTSUN’s team: “Pack up the car, road trip to Port Macquarie, throw on your superhero costume, and get ready to enjoy a sun-drenched weekend of carefree fun to a soundtrack of cracking tunes.” Sounds good to us.
