The dust may not have only just settled on Splendour In The Grass but as any Aussie music festival-goer knows, the wheels never stop spinning for the country’s other big events as they continue preparations for the summer festival season.
Case in point: despite being a full seven months away, it looks like the first name of the Laneway Festival 2015 lineup has been leaked.
FKA Twigs will be heading to Australia next February as part of the bill for the national indie music festival, this according to News Corp journalist Mikey Cahill, who tweeted the confirmation after the London-based experimental RnB singer revealed she was due for a January/February tour in an interview for Cahill’s weekly Rock City Herald Sun column.
SCOOP: @FKAtwigs will play @lanewayfest 2015. And the clip 4 Pendulum will feature her tied up by own hair, bondage style. #lanewayfestival

FKA Twigs, real name Tahilah Barnett, first rose to prominence with a series of enigmatic videos and singles last year, eventually releasing EP2 to wide acclaim in October, hailed by our Tone Deaf reviewer as a “beautiful, near-spotless opus that is scarily possessive and wonderfully transfixing.”
The 25-year-old has also been named as one of 2014’s ‘ones to watch’ in BBC’s annual ‘Sound Of’ list and Australia’s new digital station FBi Click, while her forthcoming full-length debut LP1 is one of this year’s 25 most anticipated new album releases.

FKA Twigs isn’t the first name to be linked to the Laneway 2015 lineup; back during April’s SXSW 2014, Laneway organisers sparked their very own rumour mill by sharing their excitement over the bands and artists that caught their ears and eyes at the Austin-based music festival and conference.
Among the list of Laneway’s SXSW favourites were locals D.D Dumbo, The Preatures, The Creases, and Kirin J. Callinan (who played last year’s Laneway), as well as international acts Banks, Eagulls, Glass Animals, Forest Swords, Mutual Benefit, Perfect Pussy, St. Vincent, Vic Mensa, The Range, Tourist, Sohn and Highasakite.
The latter two artists are also strengthened for positions on the 2015 bill given that the Laneway Presents touring company have linked them to Australian tours already. Norwegian five-piece Highasakite will make their debut Down Under this September, while Austrian-based producer SOHN was in the country last month, with our reviewer at his Melbourne show speculating “perhaps SOHN (and Jungle, another buzz act on tour for Laneway in July) is a likely addition for the 2015 event?”
As previously reported, Laneway Festival has been nominated in the Best Contemporary Music Festival category at the 2014 Helpmann Awards. It’s the second successive nod for the festival, which is up against Bluesfest, Falls Festival, and Vivid LIVE for the gong. Winners will be announced on Monday 18th August at the ceremony at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre.
