Iconic Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has finally set the release date for his highly-anticipated memoir, Acid For The Children.

For more than five years now, the Australian-born Flea has been teasing the release of his memoir. For most fans of either his or the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ music, this is a long-awaited affair. After all, he’s has one heck of a wild life as one of the most iconic bassists of the modern age.

Revealing in 2014 that he would be write the memoir, the bassist explained back in early 2018 that the book would be unleashed last September. Sadly, that never quite came to fruition, and fans wondered when the book may finally see the light of day.

Now, the famed musician has revealed that Acid For The Children will officially be released on November 5th, and will feature a foreword by punk icon and Bluesfest headliner Patti Smith.

According to an Amazon listing for the book, Flea’s memoirs will take readers on a “deeply personal and revealing tour of his formative years, spanning from Australia to the New York City suburbs to, finally, Los Angeles.”

“Through hilarious anecdotes, poetical meditations, and occasional flights of fantasy, Flea deftly chronicles the experiences that forged him as an artist, a musician, and a young man.

“His dreamy, jazz-inflected prose makes the Los Angeles of the 1970s and 80s come to gritty, glorious life, including the potential for fun, danger, mayhem, or inspiration that lurked around every corner.”

In an interview with Publishers Weekly, Flea explained that while his childhood wasn’t difficult to write about, he noted it was indeed difficult to share with people.

“I didn’t want to write a rock star book,” the bassist explained. “It was about setting a challenge for myself to write something that wasn’t about the Chili Peppers and that would have to stand on its own as a piece of literature.

“It seemed more interesting to me, and something I could be objective about. Because my childhood is over, but the band is still going.

“I’ve been asked to write a memoir many times but have never wanted to do it, because I didn’t like the idea of writing a celebrity book, and I didn’t like the idea of having a ghost writer, and I didn’t want to write a book unless I was really going to sit down and write one, and give myself to it.”

Flea is set to release Acid For The Children on November 5th, but considering how fluid the release date has been in the past, that might still be subject to change.
