Flight Of The Conchords are set to make their long-awaited returns to our screens in just a couple of months, with the release date of their new HBO special being revealed today.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo were set to return with a new hour-long TV special at some point this year.

While the pair had toured sporadically since the end of their self-titled TV series back in 2009, fans have been anxiously waiting for a new project from the group. Both Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie have still been active in the world of media though, with Clement becoming a Hollywood actor and director, and McKenzie scoring an Academy Award for his work on the 2011 film, The Muppets.

Now, the group’s new live special, which was recorded on July 1st at London’s Apollo Theatre, is set to hit screens around the world on Saturday, October 6th through HBO.

Produced by Mike Martinovich and directed by Hamish Hamilton, the new hour-long special is set to feature a mix of old favourites and new classics, indicating that there might indeed be a new record by Flight Of The Conchords on the horizon.

As it stands, the group’s self-titled debut was released back in 2008, and managed to set the group apart as one of New Zealand’s most exciting musical acts. Their follow-up, I Told You I Was Freaky, was released the following year, but since then, we’ve only received two standalone singles, ‘Pencils In The Wind’, and ‘Feel Inside (And Stuff Like That)’.

While it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting that third season of the TV series any time soon (or that movie the group were rumoured to be working on), we can at least take solace in the fact that we’ll be able to receive a hefty serving of the New Zealand duo this October.
