Unless you’ve been hibernating in the last few weeks, you’ve likely heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The charity fundraising stunt has already gone viral on social media as a long list of notable celebrities have gotten in on the action, so it was only a matter of time before the music world became involved.
But every Ice Bucket Challenge from here on out needs to seriously step up in spectacle, because Foo Fighters have just delivered the most awesome and cheekily clever challenge video yet.
Forget just having freezing water dumped on his head and calling it a day, Dave Grohl and co. have taken things to a new level. After explaining he’s been nominated by country superstar Zac Brown (whose recent album Grohl produced), the Foo Fighters frontman further nominates Jack Black, John Travolta, and Stephen King – the latter iconic horror writer being the inspiration for the band’s own stunt.
If you don’t want any spoilers, just dive right in below.
If you don’t have a big dumb grin on your face by now, let us spell it out for you. It’s a recreation of the infamous homecoming prom scene from the cult 1976 film adaptation of King’s Carrie. And full kudos to Grohl, not just for kitting up in the full homecoming queen gear, but more for nailing his Oscar-worthy performance – right down to the horrified reaction to the pigs blood ice water.
We can’t wait to see if Grohl’s nominees accept their challenges with a similar hilarious sense of scale – we’re looking at you, Jack Black.

Foo Fighters’ efforts to raise awareness for ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease) may be the most inventive, but they’re not the first musicians to take part. The last few weeks have seen Ice Bucket Challenge videos from Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready, rappers Lil’ Wayne and Drake, Weird Al Yankovic, Fall Out Boy – the list goes on (just do a Google if you’re curious).
Remember, the whole thing isn’t just for popularity, it’s meant to be about raising money. So once you’ve towelled down, don’t forget that you can donate at http://www.alsa.org
