Foo Fighters performed their pertinent track ‘Times Like These’ during the Celebrating America special honouring Joe Biden’s inauguration as the 46th president of the United States earlier this week.

Ahead of their performance, the band sat down with Wired to deliver their take on Trump leaving the White House, in an interview that saw drummer Taylor Hawkins express his glee that he was able to “contributed to his firing”.

“Trump is a piece of shit, I’m not afraid to say it. Trump divided the States more than ever,” Hawkins mused. “I’m happy to have contributed to the firing of that clown.”

Whilst bassist Nate Mendel acknowledged that he no longer feels embarrassed to be American following Trump’s departure.

“I can see positives now. If nothing else, just to not have the consistent barrage of humiliation as a US citizen will be nice,” he added.

“We’ve had a bunch of goons in the executive branch for four years, a lot of damage has happened – it could’ve been worse. To have competent leadership I can’t help think we’re gonna be in a better place.”

Prior to the performance, Dave Grohl gave a quick speech about teachers including Dr. Jill Biden and his mother Virginia Grohl. It’s a performance that starts quietly, but picks up. Watch it happen below.

Fooeys welcomed the Biden presidency alongside other musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, New Radicals, John Legend and Katy Perry.

Ahead of their performance, Dave Grohl took a moment to acknowledge teachers that have faced significant hardship in the time of coronavirus, with nods to Dr. Jill Biden and his mother Virginia Grohl.

“This year our teachers were faced with unprecedented challenges, but through dedication and creativity, they faced those challenges head on,” Grohl said. “So this next song is for Mackenzie [Adams] and all of our unshakable teachers that enlighten our nation’s kids every day.”
