“New Year. New Music.” The four small words with massive meaning that have come from Foo Fighters today as they tease a new release.

The rock band is set to release their 10th album, Medicine at Midnight on February 5th, 2021, and it looks like they may share a new single with us even sooner than that.

The teaser post, from the band’s official Twitter account, shows a haunted-looking psychedelic house paired with a somewhat eerie sounding clip from what is presumed to be their new song. The post is captioned,

“New year. New music…(“sooner than later!”)”.

This song is set to be the second release from their upcoming album. Foo Fighter’s dropped their first single ‘Shame, Shame’ on Saturday Night Live on November 7th.

We actually sat down with Chris Shiflett and Nate Medel, the guitarist and bassist for the band, who shared that the song began with some suggestions from Dave Grohl.

“[‘Shame Shame’] kind of stands out on the record, it’s definitely a little different than anything we’ve ever done before and it’s a little bit different than anything else on the record, although the record has a lot of songs that are, you know, groove-based like this one is,” Chris told us.

“Dave’s a drummer so he’s always coming up with rhythmic twists and riffs based on rhythms that he hears in his head.”

“For ‘Shame Shame’, it started off as just a bunch of clicks from Dave [clicks fingers], almost like flamenco, and it just grew out of that,” recalls Nate. “There wasn’t going to be any bassline originally, like, it just felt like it needed keyboards and I was fine with that.”

There’s been a lot of whispers about the album including a riff that Grohl has been working on for 25 years. While it’s not in ‘Shame Shame’, Nate confirms it will be on the album.

“Nope [it’s not on ‘Shame Shame’] but it’s in there [on the record]!” Nate revealed.
