Zoran Romic, who rose to fame as guitarist in Melbourne band Chocolate Starfish and was later co-founder of the Fur Group of companies, has died over the weekend after a year-long battle with cancer according to News Limited.

The tragic story all the more sad as Romic had recently reconciled with his bandmates in Chocolate Starfish after personal differences tore the band apart in 1998. The group had planned on a string of reformation shows but they were scuttled after Romic was diagnosed less than a year ago with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Chocolate Starfish first burst on to the scene with a cover of Carly Simon’s hit song ‘You’re So Vain’ and followed it up with two albums – Chocolate Starfish in 1994 and Box in 1995.

After the group disbanded in 1998, the members each went their separate ways before Romic decided to team up with Chocolate Starfish drummer Darren Danielson to found the Fur Group of companies in 2003.

Fur Group run a number of music-based enterprises out of Melbourne including artist management, touring, and even an independent record label. The company manages a range of artists such as Pseudo Echo, Boom Crash Opera, Sean Kelly from the Models, and Skybombers amongst others.

Romic is survived by his wife, Linda, and two daughters.
