Every week there’s a bunch of music-related stories, links, videos and other internet goodies that are a little on the trashy side, but for whatever reason get everyone in the office talking.
This is what the Tone Deaf Trash Can is all about: it’s our avenue for sharing the funniest, weirdest and downright tackiest music stories of the week to help you keep up to date with the best (and worst) things happening in pop culture. Don’t feel guilty – you’re allowed to enjoy it.
Little Miss Sunshine Actress Shades 5SOS Member In Cringe Breakup Song
Feeling youthful today? Let’s change that.
Olive from Little Miss Sunshine grew up, is now a #young #adult, and is also currently the star of this year’s most baffling breakup with none other than 5SOS’ Michael Clifford, who you otherwise might know as the one with red hair.
It used to be mad love, but now the pair have got bad blood in the wake of their brief fling that we definitely only just found out about.
Because no broken hearted teen has time for voice-activated diaries in 2014, this week Abigail Breslin took some cues from Frankie’s iconic ‘Fuck You Right Back’ anthem and decided to vent her angst in the form of the stunning public diss track, ‘You Suck’:
It’s a low budget train wreck, yes, but no-one can take away from Abigail’s brilliant lyricism, boasting some absolute pearlers like “I hate the scar above your eye, it looks like you’re on drugs“, “I’d rather date a rock“, and “You really need to learn to wash your hair”, the latter of which is kinda true, tbh.
The video soon made its way to its target, and like everyone else, Michael found it pretty entertaining.
In sad news for old mate Abby, Michael has since been seen flirting up a storm with Tone Deaf office favourite, Taylor Swift.
@Michael5SOS if I’m hearing you correctly, what you’re saying is that you’d like to be twitter BFFs. I accept your implied request.

Young love.
Ariana Grande Getting Slapped In The Face By Victoria’s Secret Model’s Wings Is Simply Beautiful
Ariana Grande was one of the performers at the Victoria’s Secret runway show on Tuesday – held just in time to shatter your body confidence for the summer – and it wasn’t Grande’s hit ‘Break Free’ that stole the show, but the moment a model accidentally hit the pint-sized singer of the head with a pair of giant wings that the internet was bestowed its new favourite meme.
Luckily no Bratz dolls were hurt in the incident, with the devastating blow softened by the weave that attached itself to Ariana’s head in 2014 and still refuses to let go.
Without further ado, the moment that broke the internet, GIF courtesy of US Weekly:
And if you thought you literally couldn’t even already, the internet did not hold back with the memes:
Bravo, internet. I’m weak.
Also, props to Grande for laughing at hers. Who said she’s a diva?
a Victoria’s Secret angel accidentally smacked me in the face with her wings and it was awesome #goals #bangbangintomyface

Jennifer Lawrence Is Now A Popstar, Debuts In Billboard Top 20
Jennifer Lawrence is many a thing – your dream celebrity BFF, Oscar-winning actress, huge fan of pizza – but you wouldn’t necessarily associate her as an internationally charting singer. Well, in case you missed the headline, that’s now changed.
This week J-Law debuted at #12 on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts as well as our own ARIA charts with her song ‘The Hanging Tree’ which she sings as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
Funnily enough, prior to its unforeseen chart success the 24-year-old told David Letterman that singing is her “biggest fear” and that she thinks of herself as a “tone deaf Amy Winehouse”.
Still, a lot of fans seemed to disagree, and her haunting hymn – which was co-written by The Lumineers and Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins – has become a bonafide hit in the US, UK and Australia.
Yup. This is J-Law’s world, we’re just living in it.
That’s It, We’re Done, Gangnam Style Just Broke YouTube
Move over Kim Kardashian – Psy literally broke the internet.
Apologies in advance for bringing up the song you’ve been trying to suppress for the past two years, but in case you’ve deliberately forgotten, ‘Gangnam Style’ still exists and people are still watching it.
So many people, in fact, that the video has now been watched a total 2.15 billion times – a number that YouTube’s view count can no longer handle, and like me after first readying this story, officially lost the will to go on.
“We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY,” read YouTube’s statement on Google Plus.
YouTube were forced to upgrade their shit to a 64-bit integer, meaning ‘Gangnam Style’ will have to be watched 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 before this happens again.
It seems unlikely, but my faith in humanity is so low at this point nothing would surprise me.
This Berlin Busker Is The Internet’s New Hero
Sometimes all it takes to capture the zeitgeist’s attention is a six-foot tall busker, a synth jam with four simple, foul-mouthed lyrics, and some easy-to-copy dance moves to go with them.
Everyone meet ‘Everybody Knows Shit Fuck’ – the inexplicable 15-second clusterfuck of an Instagram video that’s doing the rounds today.
The “everybody knows shit fuck” dance A video posted by Louisa Menke (@louisaamenke) on
According to Gawker, who took it upon themselves to find out more about this Dark Knight, the busker is Stephen Paul Taylor, a 40-year-old Canadian living in Germany who describes himself as “quite possibly the most notorious keyboard player in all of Berlin.”
The song, meanwhile, is really called ‘Everybody Knows Shit’s Fucked’, and it actually has more than four words. In it’s full form it’s a conspiracy theory-laden song with lyrics about the US government’s involvement in 9/11.
For some reason we don’t think today’s musical meme will wind up on Ellen next week.
