After signing to Made Management (Sigrid, Aurora) and United Talent Agency (UK), receiving the nod of approval from Billboard, and clocking over 380,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Norway’s newest rising star jens is on a roll.
Today the 23-year-old ray of sunshine pop released his latest single ‘Wish I Was Right For You’. A new kind of proffering from jens, whose tracks ‘Awkward’ and ‘Lottery’ were devastatingly relatable open books, but with a pop sheen that gleamed among contemporary releases.
‘Wish I Was Right For You’ is heartbreaking in its tale of letting go, and while more subdued, it still features the neon-pop tinges jens will be famous for.

How did your artist name come about?
I don’t like to complicate things (if possible). Just went with my real name, but with a small first letter. Just because!
How would you describe your music to your grandma?
Nice melodies that you can dance to.

Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?
‘Before You Let Me Down’ is one of my favourite songs (of the ones I’ve written myself that is). The process of writing it together with Hilda Stenmalm and Tom Wiklund was so therapeutic. Everything just fell into place right away.

I wasn’t even supposed to write with them that day, but the guys I was supposed to write with had to cancel. I’m glad they did (hehe). I wrote the song to a close friend of mine who went through some stuff at the time.
‘Wish I Was Right For You’ is my next single, and also one of the best songs I’ve written. I was pretty drained the day we wrote it, so we decided that we should create something that made us all feel some good old feelings.
The lyrics are personal, but it is mainly about letting go of someone you don’t want to let go of. Written by Anders Kjaer, Sivert Hagtvet, Iselin Solheim, Viljar Losnegaard and me.

What do you love about your hometown?
How small it is!!! I LOVE how I can walk from one side of the city center to the other in 10-15 minutes and meet a lot of familiar faces on my way.
I also love that it is situated next to the sea. I don’t think I could live inland. Feels claustrophobic to me.
Career highlight so far?
Played my first show earlier this month and the room was packed (crazybeanz!!!). We also played support for Dagny on three dates the week after that. Also pretty fun when Billboard said that my single ‘Lottery’ was a perf BBQ-song. I don’t know what else. I’m just happy to be floating about.
Fave non-music hobby?
Hiking. Is that considered a hobby?
What’s on your dream rider?
Red grapes. Looove red grapes. It is actually on my rider now, so I guess my dreams have come through.
Dream music collaboration?
I want to sing songs from Beauty and The Beast with Emma Watson. I would also FRAEKIN’ LOVE to work with Benee!!!! Swiiit dam she is good! (and if Dave Grohl is reading this; let’s hang, dude).
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I have no idea. Hopefully jamming out some harmonies with Emma Watson. Would be cool.
