Get to Know: Jessica Jade

How did your artist name come about?

Jessica is my first name, and Jade is my middle name! But when I was a little girl I really wanted Jade to be my first name, because I loved the crystal Jade and it felt like everyone had the name Jessica. So whenever I got the chance to introduce myself as Jessica Jade I just did it, and everyone else just went along with it. To this day I still have friends that don’t know my last name.

I would describe my music as bouncy and chill at the same time. The vocals are very R&B influenced.

Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?

“Breathe” is a song that I only ever perform live. I wrote this song when I was 16 years old, It’s about how everyone is going through it. At the end of the day you have to just breathe and understand that you are in control of your life. I always use this song to end my set, because I have a deep connection to this song and how I was feeling at the time.

“Bet” will be my latest single! Truly this song is about being underestimated, but always believing in your dreams and yourself. Writing this song gave me a lot of confidence, it’s exactly what I want to say to the world.

“You” this song is probably my favourite song on the EP. It’s my first ever love song. Relationships aren’t easy, but when your with someone that you just couldn’t see tomorrow without, you don’t give up on each other.

What do you love about your hometown?

I love the South West because I have so many nostalgic memories about growing up here. Everyone here has a story, and it’s cool how we can all relate to each other at some level. I love the style that we dress, the attitude, the different cultures, you can’t buy these kinds of experiences.

Career highlight so far?

At the top of my head, probably seeing my song on TIDAL’S R&B WOMEN playlist. For me, that is so dope. I’m just a 20-year-old girl from Australia, and to see my song on an international platform was huge for me.

Fave non-music hobby?

I love collecting skincare and watching youtube videos about products.

What’s on your dream rider?

I love this question. In my dream rider, I would request a fridge full of expensive scotch, and Hennesy! All of the bottles need to have my name engraved on them. There also must be a fridge full of my favourite skincare products, a Jacuzzi in the room and a variety of whatever foods I feel like on the day! I just went full-on fantasy mode lol please know that I only request a packet of salt and vinegar chips in my rider.

Dream music collaboration?

Brockhampton and Asap Rocky! I love how versatile both their music is.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself writing music in different countries, working with different artists and producers! Travelling and living life, like always!

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

Living on a prayer and anything Beyonce

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Trust your intuition ALWAYS.

What’s one obsession you have that no one would guess after listening to your music?
