Playing three club shows alongside their appearance at The Groovin The Moo Festival, tonight saw The Getaway Plan play The Standard alongside some interesting support. For those who got down early, they were welcomed by Sydney’s Siren Lines, who were amazing to watch and set the mood for the tremendous night ahead.

Later Drawing North, hailing from our nation’s capital, captivated the audience from the second they hit the stage. This young quintet had brilliant stage presence and their unique pop-rock sound blasted out of the speakers.

New Empire followed, jumping on stage and belting out a mixture of new and old songs to the crowd. Singer Jeremy Fowler spoke about how Sydney was their hometown and that the crowd felt more like their family than just fans. Crowd participation was encouraged with their new song “Train On Time,” as they got the crowd to chant certain lyrics back, before slowing things down during “Ghosts,” which was also welcomed by the crowd.“One Heart/Million Voices” was the perfect ending to a great set; a song showing the extent of their talent. Starting off slowly, then rocking out at the end, it had the crowd swaying, singing and dancing.

After sending fans into cardiac arrest in 2009 with the news that they were going in hiatus, it’s great to see The Getaway Plan back on stage doing what they love. Starting off the set with “Phantoms”, from their reunion album Requiem, you could see that the crowd welcomed them with open arms.

The next forty minutes was filled with a mixture of new and old numbers including songs from their Holding Conversations EP, “Sleeping Spindles” made it into the list, as well as obvious crowd favourites like “Shadows” which had the audience belting out the lyrics.

These four highly talented young men dedicated “New Year” to the those that had been there for them since the very start, giving the set a more personal, heart-warming touch.

“Heartstone,” another hit off the new album, amazed alive and was worth the $35 entry fee alone. The vibe during the song was intense, bongos played through-out the first verse accompanying the heart felt lyrics, as the last bar was played the crowd went into an uproar.

The Getaway Plan ended their fantastic set with one of their widely known tunes, “Where The City Meets The Sea” which had the punters in ecstacy; but honestly, what would a Getaway Plan set be without the presence of this song?
