Gorillaz have announced the track listing for their new album, which will be released as a download on Christmas Day on their website. The album was completely recorded by Damon Albarn on his iPad while on tour of the USA in October and November, and will be followed by a physical release in 2011.
Entitled The Fall, (perhaps a sly reference to Mark E Smith’s band who were touring Australia at the same time as Gorillaz), the album is like a diary according to Albarn. He says it was completed during spare time on the road. “I did it because there’s a lot of time that you just spend staring at walls essentially. And it was a fantastic way of doing it”.
He continued “I found working in the day, whether it’s in the hotel or in the venue, it was a brilliant way of keeping myself well.” He added “I literally wrote everything on the day in each place and there’s a strange sort of sound of America and its musical traditions that comes through. It feels like a journey through America.”
Hmm, U2 described Rattle & Hum as being like a journey across America. It remains to be seen if Albarn will start wearing leather waistcoats.
