Green Day will release a new song on October 9th as part of their recent deal with the National Hockey League (NHL). The band will premiere the track, entitled ‘Fire, Ready, Aim’, at an upcoming match between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils.
NBCSN will continue to use the song as the theme song for Wednesday Night Hockey during the upcoming season.
Additionally, the song is expected to be used on stadium playlists and during highlights packages. Green Day will also perform at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game on January 25th as part of their two-year deal with the league.
Green Day deal a long time coming for NHL
NHL chief content officer, Steve Mayer, admitted that the league have been interested in collaborating with the band for years. In 2016, an illness to Billie Joe Armstrong forced the band to cancel their performance at the Hockey World Cup. However, Mayer has been keen to work with the punk rock trio ever since.
“Even though we were upset, it was out of our control,” Mayer told Sportsnet.
“The band is hockey fans. The drummer, Tré Cool, is a big fan…given how much I’ve tried to integrate music into our world, (the partnership) is significant for me”.
‘Fire, Ready, Aim’ will feature on Green Day’s upcoming album, Father of All…. The album is due out on 7th February.

Father of All… (the record’s censored title) will be the thirteenth studio album of what has been a stellar career. The band released the album’s title track on 10th September, and have confirmed the inclusion of a number of other songs. True to form, these include the colourfully titled, ‘Idiot Love’, ‘Bulletproof Backpack’ and ‘Art of the Deal with the Devil’.
While it is not known whether the band have any more single releases planned, Mayer says that for the NHL, “the best is still yet to come.”
“We’re going to open with a bang.”
