There’s nothing quite like a unique record store, whether it’s a shop ran by one dude in his backyard, somewhere underground in Berlin or an epic 9-floor shopping centre in Tokyo, we thought we’d seen it all, that’s until we discovered a record store that can float to you.
Yep, there is a fully-fledged record store-boat named The Record Deck making its merry way down the chilly canals of London right now selling both fresh and old vinyl, as the guys at Factmag point out.
Created by record fanatic who actually lives on the boat, The Record Deck boasts of a healthy list of wax ranging from staple classics, a mass amount of Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, plenty of ’70s and loads of Best OFs as well as interesting mix of the “unusuals”. Of course, The Record Deck is not just limited to vinyl, also selling CDs, cassette tapes, instruments and bits and bobs of merchandise too.
The owner has provided a shortlist of all the places he intends to set sail in the UK, floating on from London to the likes of Stratford-Upon-Avon, Birmingham, Blisworth and Oxford – not to mention a couple of stop-offs at music festivals including Field Day, Foxton Locks and Cropredy Convention Folk Festival.
He’s also posted some running stats that include the amount of places he’s traded in, locks that he’s “completed” as well as some hilarious tidbits such as the amount of times he’s fallen off the boat and the animals he’s rescued.
We love this idea, and have been following him on his great little adventure living amongst his vinyl aboard the tiny vessel.
