Haarlo are an Australian dream pop duo that combines smart production, canny music making, and emotional resonance to uncanny effect. Having released the lead single and title track from their forthcoming EP Dreamlands, the pair are gearing up to celebrate the release of their debut collection this Thursday 11th July with an exclusive Melbourne-based launch.

A collaboration between New Zealand-bred vocalist Stacey Gardiner and multi-instrumentalist-come-producer Jono Steer (whose credits include work with Ainslie Wills, Hayden Calnin, and Eliza Hull), Haarlo demonstrates their shared love of soulful moods, well-crafted beats and surreal, evocative vocals. All of which is given full room to stretch its creative wings on Dreamlands and its spacious aural landscapes and textural production intertwined with Gardiner’s magnetic vocals.

“I couldn’t believe the world hadn’t discovered Stacey Gardiner yet,” enthuses Steer of his musical cohort. “I knew when I first heard her sing that I had to write with her.”

The pair’s first out came in debut track ‘Easier’, which reached the ears of more than 40,000 listeners after a plug from New York electro duo MS MR on their Track Addict Volume II compilation, alongside the likes of Foxygen, Mø and Alex Winston. The tune was also featured in the Tone Deaf mixtape, with our writer proclaiming it contained “all the best part of 90s Britpop… when juxtaposed with the synthy, beat-heavy music the result is something a bit spectacular.”

Haarlo have been dripfeeding tracks from their debut EP in the lead-up to their album launch for Dreamlands at the Northcote Social Club on Thursday 11th July, with support from Melbourne melodists Ainslie Wills and Eliza Hull. Details below.
