Every week there’s a bunch of music-related stories, links, videos and other internet goodies that are a little on the trashy side, but for whatever reason get everyone in the office talking.
This is what the Tone Deaf Trash Can is all about: it’s our avenue for sharing the funniest, weirdest and downright tackiest music stories of the week to help you keep up to date with the best (and worst) things happening in pop culture. Don’t feel guilty – you’re allowed to enjoy it.
Paris Hilton Responds To Deadmau5: “Sorry I’m Killing It”
Last week everyone and their dog (including us tbh) was vomiting about Paris Hilton saying she gets paid up to $1million USD for each one of her “DJ sets”.
Among the haters was Canadian Mickey Mouse appropriator Deadmau5, who posted a scathing Tumblr post calling Hilton’s succe$$ “insulting as fuck” and describing her music as “straight-up ass”.
“So paris… we’re actually not even mad you’re enthusiatic (sic) about electronic music… we love that you’re a part of our party. But please, get the fuck back in your go kart,” he wrote.
“No need to prove that you found someone stupid enough to consider paying you a million dollars for something the world knows you arent (sic)… because here’s what you actually are to everyone who knows better.. ticket sales. nothing more.”
Don’t think Paris let the hate get to her, though. Hilton could barely hear Deadmau5 squeaking above all dat cash, but she was polite enough to take some time away from #KillingIt to offer this flawless response:
I find it hilarious when others try to badmouth me in order to get attention. Sorry that I’m #Killingit while doing what I love & live for.

The new response to everything:
Mø Apologises For Awkward SNL Performance With Iggy Azalea
Poor Mø.
The Danish singer-songwriter was almost about to make her Big Mainstream Break on SNL this week, performing alongside Iggy Azalea to sing her hook on the rapper’s new single ‘Beg For It’, when she was possessed by the ghost of Lizzy Grant and “had some technical issues” with her headset that left her a beat or two behind the backing track and looking like a deer in the blinding headlights of #fame. ICYMI:
Alternatively, this pretty much sums it up:
Mø later apologised on Instagram for the disappointing performance, posting this handwritten letter featuring questionable “@” tags. I don’t think that’s how they work.
Hey @MOMOMOYOUTH – I know ur amazing, thats why i picked u! Everyone will see this at the AMAs, but 1st lets get you molded for IN-EARS! :) — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) October 27, 2014
The American Music Awards airs on November 23. Redemption awaits.
Daniel Radcliffe’s Rapping Will Blow Your Mind
In this week’s instalment of Child Stars Who Grew Into Chill Dudes, Daniel Radcliffe appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and exploded the internet by seemingly accio-ing rap skills out of nowhere and doing an on-point, bar-for-bar rendition of Blackalicious’ 1999 hit ‘Alphabet Tricks’.
If he hadn’t already earned your respect with his impressive dog walking skills or by calling out the sexist double standard his co-star Emma Watson has faced post-Harry Potter (“Well, the male population had no problem sexualising Emma Watson immediately”), this will certainly do it.
Blimey, he really is the Chosen One.
Kendrick Reignites Beef With Drake, Our Hearts Don’t Know What To Do
It’s never a good time when two of your faves have beef – it’s like making a parent choose between their kids.
Unfortunately Kendrick and Drake look like they’re at it again, and it’s time to declare your allegiances.
The beef between these two dates back to Lamar’s rap game-busting ‘Control’ verse last year which included Drake in its list of 894 other rappers Kendrick was coming for.
Now the latest development comes with Kendrick’s verse in Jay Rock’s new single, ‘Pay For It’.
In it, he raps, “Been dissecting your motormouth until I break down the engine,” and, “See my opponent then, cease your existence/ Endin’ our friendship, baby, I’d rather die alone.”
People quickly pointed out that the first line is most definitely a shot at Drake’s Nothing Was The Same cut ‘The Language’, where he boasted, “I am the kid with the motormouth/ I am the one you should worry ‘bout.”
With Drake continually dropping absolute heat on SoundCloud out of nowhere and Kendrick due to release his highly-anticipated album “before 2015”, we’ll probably be hearing a lot more back-and-forth lyrical stabs where that came from.
A little bit of competition doesn’t hurt anyone, but still, part of me wishes we could all just get along.
Shannon Noll Butchers The National Anthem, Betrays A Nation
I don’t even know what to say. No-one could’ve seen this coming.
True blue Aussie legend Shannon Noll, who won the country’s heart in the first season of Australian Idol with his battler’s attitude and iconic goatee, has brought shame upon our great nation.
Noll, who I now refuse to affectionately call Nollsie, was given the lucrative task of singing the National Anthem at the poor man’s Melbourne Cup Cox Plate.
He had one job, and he done gone fucked up:
Our fallen hero copped a lot of flack on Twitter, with viewers declaring it the “most bogan rendition” of Advernce Astraya Fair in history.
But Shannon wasn’t gunna lie down and ask what about bloody me, and instead hopped on the old Twitter himself and chucked up this flaming corker of a comeback:
@lachie66 ha ha, get stuffed mate! #hater

Yeah nah get fucked m8! Get amongst it!
