Connecticut metalcore band Hatebreed are making headlines for the first time in probably a decade after vocalist Jamey Jasta took to Twitter to take aim at Scottish alt-pop royalty CHVRCHES.

Yesterday, Deftones revealed the eclectic lineup for the second instalment of the annual Dia De Los Deftones. The lineup boasts an impeccable lineup of CHVRCHES, Gojira, JPEGMAFIA, Hum, Youth Code, and Brutus. Unfortunately, one giant metalcore pissbaby decided that instead of embracing the eclectic, diverse roster of artists, he’d chuck a giant tantrum.

Jasta took to Twitter to share his grievances over the billing of CHVRCHES on the lineup. “Who is churches with a v and why the fuck are they playing over Gojira get tha fuuuuuck outtta here have you ever heard The Heaviest Matter In The Universe you’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offense. God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes,” he tweeted.

Moments later, Jasta shared a follow-up tweet, “Update: googled Churches w/ a v, they gotta be huge they did a song with a guy w/ a Marshmallow mask and people LOOOOOVE IT. Good for them.”

CHVRCHES vocalist Lauren Mayberry — who has never been one to shy away from confrontation — responded to Jasta’s tweets with an impossibly composed and eloquent statement.

“Deftones curated the lineup so I don’t know how that speaks to problems with The Music Industry. I think it’s important and powerful that they promote the idea of a diverse community and try to bridge gaps instead of being guided by limiting, antiquated ideas about genre.”

She continued, “I saw Gojira in Glasgow years ago and have seen Deftones three times so was excited when we got asked to be on the bill. Just because someone plays or listens to ‘pop music’ doesn’t mean they don’t understand or appreciate other things.”

Jasta, who is clearly riding a high of unfamiliar relevance, continued on his Twitter tirade this morning. Although he lacked the cojones to reply to Mayberry directly, he found the inner strength to subtweet his heart out.

“I’m sure they’re [CHVRCHES] lovely people and a popular group, I don’t agree with the line up order, same w/ other festivals, if anyone is butt hurt about my opinion wait til you hear the podcast! Metal needs to be shown more respect. Longer career, legacy, more albums, bill em higher,” he wrote.

He then followed it up with the ultimate old-head adage “Bands that play their instruments > track acts. #Facts.” We get it brother, it’s the year 2019 and you still own mosh shorts.
