Heavy Metal in Baghdad is a critically-acclaimed 2007 rockumentary-film following filmakers Moretti and Alvi as they track down the heavy metal Iraqi band Acrassicauda amidst the Iraq War. The Iraqi heavy-metal band Acrassicauda were the subject of a Vice magazine article and with the magazine’s help were able to stage a sell-out show despite the recent ousting of Saddam Hussein in the summer of 2005. Filmakers from Vice returned to Iraq in 2006, to track down the band. Upon their return they discovered the multitude of death and destruction, including rehearsing studios destroyed by bombs. The film is must see for anyone in a band.

In 2008, Acrassicauda relocated to America, and since then, have been hard at work becoming an actual band. That’s all going to culminate on March 9 of next year, when Vice Records releases Only the Dead See the End of the War. It’s obvious that the band’s worked hard at improving, and they’ve learned from the best. The four song EP was produced by Testament’s Alex Skolnick and mixed by Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God, Hatebreed). As could be imagined, the EP’s songs are informed by their time in the war. 2010 is shaping up to be a very good year for the band.
