Fresh from multiple world tours, France’s ever-prolific psych mystic High Wolf is hitting Australian shores for a September-October national tour, including dates with USA’s Benoît Pioulard. With new album ‘Know Thyself’ on Sun Araw’s Sun Ark label and upcoming music on Not Not Fun, High Wolf’s miasmic loops and drones will be rolling across the country.
Newly announced, High Wolf will be supporting Michigan’s Benoît Pioulard (Thomas Meluch) for his Brisbane and Sydney appearances. Meluch’s recordings have come out over the last number of years on labels Kranky, Type, Blue Flea, and FM Dust. Since the project’s inception in 2001, he has released an acclaimed series of albums, culminating in the shortly to be released Hymnal, due in early 2013.
High Wolf’s tour also takes in special appearances at Newcastle’s Sound Summit and Room40’s Open Frame Festival in Brisbane, as well as dates in Perth, Adelaide, and Melbourne.
In between Herzog’s Aguirre and Levi Strauss’ Sad Tropics, mysterious and psychoactive, High Wolf’s music mixes cosmic loops, fuzzy guitars, droney synths, mystic vocals and tribal percussion, inspired by primitive and ritual music as well as adventurous modern music.
A hyperactive artist continuously on the move around the globe, High Wolf has never stopped producing and collaborating since the project’s inception in 2009. Starting with his first tape, High Wolf has had an ongoing relationship with the influential Californian label Not Not Fun.
Other releases on the label include a 7″ and debut LP in 2010, a tape in 2011 and another LP planned for 2012. In 2011 HW also worked with American label, Holy Mountain (Om, James Ferraro), releasing his second LP album entitled “Atlas Nation”.
