It’s been seven years since grunge icons Hole performed together, but a recent rehearsal picture has sent reformation rumours into overdrive.
Back in the ’90s, it was hard to avoid the grunge powerhouse that was Hole. Founded by Courtney Love at the end of the ’80s, the group’s Kim Gordon-produced debut Pretty On The Inside managed to gain them widespread acclaim as one of the most ferocious acts on the scene.
While Love soon would become known for her relationship with Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, records such as the phenomenal Live Through This followed, before 1998’s Celebrity Skin served as the final album before their 2002 breakup.
Although a two-year reformation in 2010 would result in a new album and tour, things have been less positive since, with fans wondering when – if ever – the band would get back to their old tricks and dish out some grunge classics.
Earlier this year, Courtney Love added fuel to the reunion fire by revealing that the band had been considering a tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Live Through This.
“We are definitely talking about it,” Love explained at the time. “There’s nothing wrong with honoring your past; I’ve just kind of discovered that. If you don’t, people will rewrite history and you will become an inconvenient woman.”
Now, rumours have ramped right up thanks to a new Instagram post.

Taking to social media earlier today, Courtney Love shared a since-deleted Instagram post that showed herself, drummer Patty Schemel, and bassist Melissa Auf der Maur performing together in Hollywood.
Captioned with the phrase “Whose rusty af? Ladies !!!”, Love included a series of hashtags that included the phrase “hole” and “rehearsal”, indicating that something big is undoubtedly on the way.
Love also responded to a series of comments on the initial post, stating that “We r so rusty. Just finding our way through songs n songs we like n riffs seeing what’s what! It’s cool. Af nice to be together.” Likewise, she also responded to questions about further Hole gigs with two heart emojis.
While both Patty Schemel and Melissa Auf der Maur made up the classic lineup of the band, the notable absence of guitarist Eric Erlandson does raise a couple of questions.
However, at this stage, it’s looking as though a long-overdue Hole could finally be happening, so we’ll just have to sit back and wait for more info as it comes.
