Seminal Illinois alt-rock act Hum have kept it lowkey since their 2000 breakup. The band have surprise-released their first new album in over 22 years: Inlet. The group’s first record since January 1998’s Downward Is Heavenward

Inlet features the band’s original members —Matt Talbott, Tim Lash, Jeff Dimpsey, and Bryan St. Pere— and is out now for your listening pleasure.

Inlet was released, quite unceremoniously, on Bandcamp earlier this morning.

“Vinyl manufacturing has been delayed a bit due to Covid. We are hoping we can ship late Summer. We’ll keep you posted. The band is extremely thankful for the kindness we have received over the years, and we hope everybody is healthy and well!” the band said in a statement.

Inlet was recorded at Earth Analog and ELL, and co-produced by band members Talbott and Lash alongside James Treichler. The eight-song LP is the kind of oblivion-inducing soundtrack we need right now. I know that after my shift this evening I will be dramatically lining up tealight candles across my room, lying on the floor, and immersing myself in the albums dreamy realm.

During their initial run from 1991 to 1998, Hum released four sterling albums. The post-hardcore heroes are best known for their 1995 track ‘Stars’.Prior to the surprise release of Inlet, the band had only sporadically reunited for concert and tours.

Inlet is out now on Earth Analog Records, and you can buy it at Bandcamp.
