A Husky Australian Tour 2014 has been announced as the folk rock ensemble return with brand new music.
Husky will drop the first taste of the new material they’ve been working on for the last two years in ‘I’m Not Coming Back’ (out 30th June), the first glimpse at the new collection of songs that will form Husky’s second full-length album – scheduled to drop in Spring.
Aside from an appearance at last year’s inaugural Panama Music Festival in Tasmania, the forthcoming single tour will be the first headline dates for the band since 2012.
The Husky Australian Tour 2014 will see the Melbourne band gracing stages at intimate venues in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Fremantle, Sydney and Brisbane. The band – Husky Gawenda, Gideon Preiss and Evan Tweedie, and touring drummer Arron Light – will be playing brand new songs as well as material from their much loved 2011 debut Forever So, which saw Husky becoming the first Australian artist signed to influential Seattle label Sub Pop in 2012.
The band’s signature sophistication in song writing, musicianship and orchestration captivated both industry and public, and saw them touring Australia, the US and Europe for almost two years running. Since then, the band have been enjoying time back home in Melbourne, crafting and rehearsing their new songs, leading to the ironically titled new single ‘I’m Not Coming Back’.
Written by Gawenda in a small makeshift studio at the back of his house, located directly beneath a flight path, ‘I’m Not Coming Back’ came to be one evening when the stars overhead were particularly illuminating and the airplanes gliding past seemed to be twinkling in their reflected light.
Tapping into the notion that most of us have the need to leave something behind in our lives, and showcasing the band’s rare ability to tell stories and create worlds for the listener, ‘I’m Not Coming Back’ is a distinctly Husky song, yet with an added drive and energy – just like one of those planes gliding through the night, moving toward a new destination.
Be part of the audience when Husky make their awaited return to the live circuit this July.
