It was only last week that we regrettably reported the closure of a live music venue in Sydney, and sadly we have similar unfortunate news, this time the axe falling on a performing space in Perth.
Adored live music venue The Bakery in Northbridge, Perth, has announced that it will close its doors for a final time on Saturday 9th May, as The Music highlight.
It has been said that The Bakery will be undergoing major redevelopments and there is at present no comment on whether live music will be heard from the central location after the changes.
The Bakery have promised that all planned live music up to its planned closure date will go ahead as normal, including the likes of Ariel Pink and Washington.
CEO Marcus Canning of Artage, the company that manages The Bakery, spoke of treasured venue’s final days, “We’re focusing all our energy on giving the old girl the send-off she deserves.”
It’s been 13 years of successful years of operations, and if you’re been involved in any of these Baker’s dozen years of fun, the venue have stated that “audiences will have the chance to say goodbye with The Last Toast Bakery Farewell series, a curated program that will celebrate the venue’s diverse musical history. The program will kick off on Wednesday 29 April 2015 with an international headliner to be announced next month, and run every night until Saturday 9 May 2015.”
The Bakery has played a pivotal role in Perth’s ever-expanding live music scene, providing a performance space for up-and-coming musicians as well as hosting a wealth of massive international artists. This is most definitely a terrible lost for the west capital, hopefully the unbelievable wealth of talent that emits from the city, Perth will find a new stage to both foster growing and “big name” bands.
