It’s not often an artist comes along that truly blows your mind.
Sometimes though, an artist does just that. That is the case for Camp 8 – the musical project of Melbourne based, Christchurch born singer Reuben Apirana.
His vocal work has been compared to the likes of Matt Corby, and David Le’aupepe of Gang of Youths.
His debut track ‘Everything’ gets its official release today, and boy are we excited! ‘Everything’ was written by Camp 8, and produced by Hayden Calnin.
Calnin is a singer in his own right. But, his production work has seen him collaborate with only the finest – Didirri, Riley Pearce and Ro.
Camp 8 was born in Christchurch, but spent most of his years growing up on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. That’s until he moved to Melbourne four years ago.
The now 28-year-old musician says music has always been a part of his life. He came from a musical family, but only really took it on last year.
Just a couple of short weeks ago, Camp 8 released the track to triple j Unearthed, and the reviews have been glowing.
“It’s not just a showstopper but a heartstopper. Reuben, the voice behind Camp 8, has managed to climb some Everest-sized emotional peaks on this song,” said triple j Music Director Dave Ruby Howe.
triple j Unearthed’s Executive Producer Tommy Faith said: “I’m obsessed with this. Those beautiful padded piano notes that cushion the song through its duration are just right. I’m feeling everything.”
