Emerging as a result of a massive breakup of new-age, post-hardcore band Woe, Is Me, eclectic and musical experimentalists Issues are ready to unveil their self-titled debut album.
Following on organically from their EP Black Diamonds, Issues have combined what most people would refer to as traditional post-hardcore structures and influences with electronic and hip hop elements.
The new record focuses more on the harmonic soul and clean vocals rather than fusing a standard balance between the cleans and growls or screams. Tyler Carter has stood out in the post-hardcore community for his incredible singing ability, and this new release emphasises the degree of separation between him and other vocalists even further.
Whilst most tracks are designed for the alternative genre, Tyler Scout (on turntables and synthesiser) inserts scratches and hip hop elements throughout the album and particularly as a transition between the clean vocals and growls.
To promote the self-titled record, Issues spammed ‘Stingray Affliction’ across their social media platforms – an accurate snapshot of what the rest of the album represents. The track is filled with breakdowns, scratches, and screams that transition smoothly to Carter’s cleans.
The mere fact that there are two members of Issues purely committed to vocals and another for turntables is a reflection of the eclectic approach the band have taken with this record. The hyped six-piece are clear pioneers of a new sub-genre in heavy alternative music and will reap rewards from this record.
