Mark your calendars! K-pop star IU has announced a new album and teased a pre-release single for it, titled ‘Celebrity’.
Listen, any year with new music from IU is a good year. And this time, we’re not just getting a mini: K-pop star IU has announced her first full-length in almost three years!
It looks like she’s gearing up to release more details, since the first crumb came earlier today. IU teased a pre-release single for her new album, titled ‘Celebrity’. As one fan raved under her tweets, we smell SOTY (Song Of The Year).
A statement about the track describes it as having a ‘bright and cheerful pop sound’: “It’s a genre of music that IU is trying for the first time.”
News about the album came as a surprise to fans earlier in January, when IU herself revealed she was working on a new album during the 35th Golden Disc Awards.
Later on, her agency confirmed the news: “IU is currently in the midst of preparations for her fifth full-length album, and she will be pre-releasing one song from that album on January 27.”
While there is no information yet about the upcoming album, anticipation is still high. This will be IU’s fifth full-length album and her first in three years after 2017’s Palette. The year of its release, Palette reached top charts in IU’s home country and was ranked the Best K-pop Album of the year by Billboard.

The album’s single ‘Through The Night’ marked the eighth ‘Perfect All-Kill’ in IU’s career. For the uninitiated, a ‘Perfect All-Kill’ is when a song tops all major South Korean music charts simultaneously. Since 2019, it’s been charting continuously among the top 100 songs on South Korean music charts.
‘Celebrity’ releases on January 27th, 2020.
