Just under an hour ago, tickets for many of the Official Splendour In The Grass 2013 sideshows went on sale (so, chop chop they’ll be gone soon!), and due to extremely high demand in the pre-sale, James Blake has announced a second and final show at the Sydney Opera House – on sale now.
The Mercury award-nominated, electronic wunderkind has already sold out his first performance of Music at the House on July 30th, and now, in addition to his appearances at Byron for Splendour In The Grass, James Blake will perform a second time the night previous on Monday 29th July.
Completing a successful two-date stopover in Australia earlier in the year before his addition to the Splendour In The Grass 2013 lineup, James Blake will be warming up for the Byron Bay winter festival with FOR 2013 from June 21st to 23rd.
With collaborators including Brian Eno, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, Blake’s reputation as ‘next big thing’ was confirmed with the release of second full-length album, Overgrown, in April; completing a successful two-date stopover in Australia earlier in the year before his addition to the Splendour In The Grass 2013 lineup,
His 2011 eponymous debut album sold over 400,000 copies and garnered Mercury, Brit, and Ivor Novello award nominations, while his intimate live performances earned him a reputation outside of the studio.
Combining his heart-piercing songwriter side with soaring electronics, Overgrown takes the listener surfing an emotional wave. It is an electronic soul testament that marks him out as the successor to Massive Attack and the Aphex Twin as well as a significant contemporary of singer songwriters like Bon Iver.
James Blake’s Opera House performance is part of Music at the House, the contemporary music program presented by Sydney Opera House that also includes performances by The Drones, Tegan and Sara, Cassandra Wilson, Wilco, Sarah Blasko, Neil Finn and Paul Kelly, Nick Cave &the Bad Seeds and more.
