Iconic New York City rappers the Wu-Tang Clan are set to receive the biopic treatment shortly, with Joey Bada$$ confirming his role in the upcoming film.
Just last month, music-lovers were treated to new music from the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. Featuring music that was showcased on the recent documentary, Of Mics And Men, the new tunes undoubtedly got fans a little bit excited about what the future holds.
Late last year though, it was revealed that Hulu were set to premiere a new documentary later this year titled Wu-Tang: An American Saga.
As Deadline reports, the new series is “set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic,” and “tracks the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, who strives to unite a dozen young, black men that are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.”
Now, the cast of the new series is slowly coming together, with Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ confirming he has been recruited to portray Jason Richard Hunter, better known as Inspectah Deck.
Check out Joey Bada$$’ interview with Angie Martinez:
Speaking to Power 105’s The Angie Martinez Show (via Complex), Joey Bada$$ revealed that while Dave East has been tapped to portray Method Man, he is feeling pretty excited to bring the story of Inspectah Deck to the screen.
“Me and Dave East is in Wu-Tang,” Bada$$ explained. “We still shooting. But it comes out this year.”
“It’s pretty on point from what I’ve seen,” Bada$$ confirmed of the series’ authenticity. “I like what they’re doing. I like how they’re doing it.
“The only thing with TV is it ain’t a music video. There’s no playback. You just have to trust. You have to give your best performance and hope they pick the right take.”
While Wu-Tang: An American Saga is set to premiere later this year, it remains to be seen who will be portraying the remainder of the collective, with each of the Clan’s members providing some unique personalities to depict.
Whatever the case, there’s a strong chance that everyone is anxiously waiting to see who will be cast to play the enigmatic Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
