Earlier this week it was announced that Beastie Boys and Spike Jonze would be collaborating once again, this time on a live performance. The performance, penned “Beastie Boys Story – A 2 Person 1 Man Show About 3 Kids Who Started a Band Together,” is based on the 2018 memoir, Beastie Boys Book.
It’s almost been ten years since the bands final performance. Surviving members Adam “Adrock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond will return to the stage in April for three live shows. The show is set to open on April 5th at Philadelphia’s Tower Theatre before moving on to Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre for three shows from April 8th-10th.
It has since been confirmed that Jonze and Beastie Boys will be joined by actor-turned-director Jonah Hill. Hill will act as producer of the filming of the performances. Hill announced his involvement with the project via Instagram, sharing: “Absolutely honored to produce this live show with my heroes to tell their story directed by my other hero.”
Details about the stage show have been kept under tight wraps but it has been confirmed that both Jonze and Hill have begun filming material for the production.
Jonze and Beastie Boys have collaborated together for decades. Their most significant collaboration being the iconic music video for ‘Sabotage’ in 1994.
