Fans of early Judas Priest tunes were in for a treat recently, with the band dusting off ‘Killing Machine’ for the first time in four decades.

If you’ve ever been a fan of a band with a sprawling discography, you can understand how hard it can be to hear your favourite songs live in concert. Sometimes you might see your favourite band play numerous times, only to hear all the hits, but never your preferred deep cut.

Such has been the case for many Judas Priest fans for some time now. While the band are usually pretty good at bringing out their old tunes for their fans, some songs have been retired for a number of years now, leaving their audiences wanting.

Back in October of 1978, British heavy metal icons Judas Priest released their fifth studio album, Killing Machine (or Hell Bent For Leather, as it was titled for the American market). A little more commercial than previous records, the band soon found themselves hitting the road to support this new release.

On November 24th, 1978, they dropped by England’s Wirrina Stadium to showcase the new tracks, alongside a number of their previous tunes. However, if anyone left that show expressing their desire to hear the band perform ‘Killing Machine’ again, they would have been in for a very long wait.

As Rolling Stone reports, Judas Priest hit up Paris’ Le Zénith on Sunday night to kick off their European tour. While the setlist was a veritable list of hits from the group, it also featured a rather surprising addition; the inclusion of ‘Killing Machine’.

Yes, French fans of Judas Priest were treated to something very special, witnessing the first performance of 1978’s title track since the record’s release all those decades ago.

This isn’t the first time that Judas Priest have dug up some of the older material though, with the band bringing out ‘Deliver The Goods’ back in September.

With Judas Priest set to hit up Australian shores with the Download Festival in just over a month, there’s no word as to whether we’ll be getting any old tracks dusted off for the occasion, but we’re eager to see what is indeed in store for local audiences.
